When I helped launch Uber early 2010 I didn’t really see myself as an operations guy. I am just a get-shit-done guy that can take on a project, learn what I need to know, talk to the right people, and deploy…then keep learning. I guess that’s part of the process called entrepreneurism.
Put the elevator music on Pull me back where I belong The ambulance sings along The fly on the wall Doesn’t know what’s wrong If I could forget myself Find another lie to tell If I had a soul to sell I’d buy some time To talk to my brain cell
I hope to use this blog to explore the nexus between new media and the 2012 Presidential Campaign- at all different levels. To start, here’s a very superficial look at how the candidates are using Facebook. The following are the number of “likes” as of July 09, 2011 for each of the declared Republican presidential candidates:
Mitt Romney 1,031,700
Michelle Bachmann 414,107
Herman Cain 147,795
Newt Gingrich 142,056
Gary Johnson 126,426
Tim Pawlenty 103,049
Ron Paul 29,767
Rick Santorum 23,374
Jon Huntsman 9,111
Fred Karger 2,048
Thaddeus McCotter 1,009
Andy Martin 568 (Facebook Friends)
One of the above will compete against President Obama in the 2012 election. As of July 09, the President has 21 million, 968 thousand 390 (21,968,390) likes.
Good stuff, although I disagree on the first one. I’m pretty sure an exponential increase in sharing is not only likely, but probably underestimating this. We’re witnessing the biggest transformation in peer to peer, social communication since… well, possibly since ever. Social media (not just the platforms, but the ideals and philosophies behind it) have fundamentally changed the way we interact with the world and with each other, and mobile technology is only exacerbating the impact.
1. Facebook’s numbers are slowing, even though they just hit 750,000,000 users. (Where was that announcement?) Of course, they are spinning this decline in advancement as a change of interest. Zuck wants to literally exponentially increase sharing by 2X ever year. Boasting a 1024X increase in…
